I done it!
Replaced tranny and diff fluids. Installed skip shift eliminator. Best I can tell, it shifts a bit smoother, but I also wish it shifted a bit smoother and that my work was not for nothing.
MGW Short shifter coming soon. I need a different knob for it. I really hate C5 and C6 shifter knobs.
I want something like leather - something that looks like a honda shifter
but i need it to have 6 speeds.
Any one have any good recommendations what works with MGW for C5 Vette?

Not yesterday, but I installed new pads and rotors on my wife’s Explorer over the long weekend. I had plans to do the front springs and struts, but FedEx decided to take their time delivering the parts. I should have them in hand today.

Excellent work! Fedex/UPS screwed me over too. I was hoping to have all I need in hand by last weekend, but nope. Delayed. Got it all on Monday. Didn’t have enough motivation to take dashboard apart tho. Coming this weekend if I get my short shifter.

I painted my control arms and front panel so I can install them later this week, didn’t really get to make more after work.
I got used to having free days almost every week in the last weeks, this is gonna be a long one

Bought some cheap HF wrenches and tools to throw in my boat (tired of using my good tools as “just in case” tools and getting them wet)
Didn’t need any tools after 6 hours on the water.
Good day.

I keep this permanently on the boat along with cheap pry bar and hammer. Together it is cheap enough to not care about anything getting wet or stolen, and it is a good little set for what it is. If I need more than what is in that set, it’s not being fixed on the water anyway.

Replaced the inner and outer tie rods, idler arm and center link in the Camaro in an attempt to get it to steer like a real car. Even though I took great pains to make the new stuff the same length as the old the toe is noticeably off but I knew it was going to have to have an alignment done so I’m not too upset.

Tacoma’s battery failed while we were out to get dinner Monday night. Had to bump-start in reverse to get going, but I got it home with no trouble. Had to replace the battery yesterday, but it starts fine now.

Put on the A/C belt and tensioner so I can finally get it pressure tested and hopefully get working A/C. Installed a cabin air filter in to the hole behind my dash that didn’t have one. Put in kartboy subframe locking bolts that should tighten up the backend and not have the subframe shift around much/at all.

Cleaned up my replacement fuel distributor and tried to swap, but was thwarted by not having the right torx bit.

bets on AC system leaking?
I recently slapped new AC compressor and AC condenser in. Put new orifice tube. Took it to get tested. Leaked like a son of a bitch. Had another place look for leaks as the first place was too busy on a Saturday.
Allegedly all sorted now.

damn you, torx! Need regular fasteners.

Right? Weirdly the one I pulled off was Phillips but the donor is torx. Not sure if mine were changed over at one point or what. Saab tends to use odd fasteners (torx and hex mainly) for things they’d really rather you didn’t take apart. Sort of an extra “are you sure?”.

The car hasn’t had proper working A/C since I got it 5 years ago. I’m assuming it’s everything leaking

VW incarnations use tripple square. Another kick in the nuts.
You want to do your own brakes - are you really really sure you want to go there? You do? Great! Get a new tool set, cuz yours isn’t good enough

Take it to a shop and ask them to find leaks with that dye and uv light. then change out the o-rings. That should seal the damn thing up.
I had it done, but AC is still not strong. However, mine has the controller door broken - selector for where you want air to blow. It blows everywhere right now so it’s not concentrated in a place. It doesn’t feel cold. I’ll fix the door once I get replacement shifter - that too requires dashboard removal.
Hopefully that is the culprit. If not, I will need to check for leaks again.

Oh jeeze. Sounds about right. There are a lot of “special” tools in the Saab, but thankfully I haven’t run into any yet.

Front Brake Rotors and a polyurethane motor mount.
Also noticed I have not one, but THREE bent wheels.....UGH.

cheaper to bend the 4th than to get 3 new...

I installed an alpine head unit in my roommate’s Accord to replace the crappy dual CD player she had. Does that count?

of course it counts. You counted it. Who am I to discount it?

I got a new stereo (head unit) in my boat! It has two separate amps to power 8 total speakers plus a subwoofer. I still don’t quite understand how it’s all wired, but I did get the sub working properly - it wasn’t working at all when I first got the boat and wondered if it had been disconnected because it was blown or something. But it appears to work fine!? It just wasn’t really wired properly. I created far more work for myself because of all the differences between the old and new units, but at least there’s music coming out of all the speakers and it sounds reasonably good!

just make sure those wires aren’t getting hot. Wouldn’t want your boat fire to be extinguished by ambient waters

No doubt. And I got a son heading off to college in a month, I just don’t have $500+ or so lying around right now.
![]() 07/06/2017 at 09:40 |

Ha! You’re right about that. It’s not the power that wasn’t wired right, it was the preamp outputs and the amp settings. I wonder if the old head unit didn’t have a separate subwoofer preamp output, but that’s moot because it’s long gone now!

Back when I was late teen, I had my Acura Integra. Put fog lights on. Had no idea what a relay was and why the hell I needed it and why the hell instruction manual didn’t say which plug goes where, I just wired it without relay. How hard can it be? 12v won’t shock me much.
Before I knew it, the switch in my dashboard stopped working. I pulled it out and it was all melted.
Nearly burned my baby to the ground and died myself.

hahaha, I remember a 1990 Civic I had where I had somehow left a wire bare under the dash. Every once in a while it would spark and short out, then I’d have no dash lights or tail lights. Yay safety. Not quite as bad as your situation!
